★OUR SERVICES★
The WISC-V is a globally recognized cognitive assessment used to understand a child’s cognitive strengths and challenges. In addition to providing a child's overall IQ score, it assesses a range of thinking skills, such as verbal reasoning, working memory, and visual-spatial processing.
At STARSCAPE, we take an expanded approach by including areas not typically covered in standard assessments, providing a fuller picture of a child's abilities.
Target Age: 6 years 0 months to 16 years 11 months
Duration: Approximately 2–3 hours
This assessment is ideal for parents who want to understand how their child's cognitive strengths can be applied to everyday life, learning, and growth.
The WAIS-V is the most up-to-date intelligence test used worldwide to understand the cognitive strengths and challenges of adults. It provides an overall IQ score, and more importantly, it measures a wide range of cognitive abilities such as verbal reasoning, working memory, and the ability to process and retain visual or auditory information.
At STARSCAPE, we offer the WAIS-V in English, making it especially suitable for English speaking individuals and returnees.
Target Age: 16 years 0 months to 90 years 11 months
Duration: Approximately 2–3 hours
This assessment is recommended for individuals who are more comfortable in English than Japanese, and who wish to better understand how their cognitive profile can support them in daily life, learning environments, or the workplace.
STARSCAPE also provides a range of other psychological and cognitive assessments which are conducted in Japanese.

STARSCAPE provides comprehensive psychological assessment reports written in English (with Japanese versions available upon request). Each report includes a detailed analysis of the student’s cognitive profile, highlighting not only areas of challenge but also strengths that may be used in the classroom. Reports are structured to support the development of individual educational plans and learning support plans, and include concise, actionable recommendations tailored to the student’s specific needs.
STARSCAPE offers consultation services to help families and schools work together in supporting the student’s growth. This includes meeting with school personnel to explain assessment results, provide insights, and support collaborative planning for accommodations or learning support strategies. STARSCAPE also assist families in navigating both international and Japanese school systems, ensuring that each student's unique needs are clearly understood and appropriately addressed. Our goal is to bridge communication between families and the school, and to empower both parents and educators with the tools to help students succeed.
The process begins with filling out the intake form. This helps us understand your background, concerns, and goals for the assessment. The tester will contact you via email or STARSCAPE's official line to set up an initial meeting within 3 days.
An initial meeting will be held online to discuss your situation and needs in more detail. During this stage, we will also be discussing on when to have the assessment. The tester will email you again after the meeting to confirm on the venue, the time and date, and the fees for the assessment.
Parents are asked to come 30 minutes earlier to allow their child to have a brief rest before the assessment. During that time, the tester will go through the contract with the parents. For a smoother transition on the assessment, parents are advised to review the contract before hand here.
The technical report will be sent to you via letter pack within 1 month. The tester will also be in contact with you to set up an online meeting to discuss the results and individual educational plan.
Upon the parent's request, the tester will contact the school to request for a visitation. This includes classroom observation, and meeting with the teachers to share assessment findings and discuss accommodations.
Please note that school consultations are offered as an additional service .

Message
In my clinical work with children, adults, and families, I’ve often noticed how easy it is for parents or teachers to focus only on what a child is “not doing well enough”. In Japan especially, psychological assessments are often seen as something one undergoes only when there is a serious problem. As a result, adults have this misconception that assessments are for 'problem children' to take so that they can get a diagnosis.
However, I believe assessments should be more approachable as they are valuable clinical tools for discovering strengths, unlocking potential, and understanding a child better. At STARSCAPE, I aim to make the process accessible, affirming, and easy to understand. I also strive to create reports that that not only address the concerns of families, but also help teachers understand better on how to support each child in practical and compassionate ways.
STARSCAPE is established with the hope that psychological assessments and counselling are not just seen as ways to “solve problems,” but as opportunities for self-discovery, where worries (悩み) are gradually turns into curiosity (好奇心). For those who may feel nervous or anxious about assessments and counselling, please know that this is a space where you come talk safely, openly, and without pressure.

Advisor
Tomomi, YAMASHITA Ph.D.
Doctor of Human Sciences / Licensed Clinical Psychologist / Certified Public Psychologist (Japan) / Certified Poetry Therapist (CPT)
Dr. Yamashita specializes in preventative psychological support for individuals going through life transitions such as career changes, study abroad, or entering the workforce. She is the first Japanese practitioner to receive certification as a CPT (Certified Poetry Therapist) in the UK, where she studied the therapeutic use of literature.
Currently based at Osaka University, her research focuses on how psychological assessments can be used as reflective tools for supporting individuals in career development and in better understanding the personal stories that shape their lives.
Message
In life, we encounter many turning points such as starting school, changing jobs, moving abroad, getting married. During these transitions, we’re often faced with a flood of choices, and it is natural to feel unsure or even overwhelmed. At such moments, it can be helpful to pause and look inward to rediscover who we are from a new perspective. Doing so may lead to more meaningful, empowering decisions.
I believe that psychological assessments and counseling are not just tools for diagnosis, but opportunities to reflect on the stories we've lived so far, and to begin writing the next chapter. Rather than focusing on what has gone wrong in the past, I aim to support individuals in understanding how they see themselves today, and where they want to go next.
I am honored to contribute to STARSCAPE’s mission by supporting the development of services that enrich each person’s journey and help their personal story unfold with greater depth, clarity, and possibility.
